2018: The year that was

Ryan Lazarus, CEO at Revolver Gaming, looks back on what has been a hugely successful year for the slots developer

The past 12 months have been transformational for the global online gambling industry, but also for Revolver Gaming. While the online casino sector has continued to grow in existing and new markets around the world, so too has Revolver.

For us, 2018 has been a year of development and maturity that has seen us receive a licence from the UK Gambling Commission, the signing of numerous content distribution deals and completion of integrations with several big-name operators and aggregators.

Here are our five biggest milestones from 2018:

1) Launched our own platform:

Back in June we flicked the switch on our new proprietary platform, allowing us to integrate directly with operators and aggregators for the first time. Our platform is truly state-of-the-art, and allows us to complete integrations in just a few days – even hours in some instances!

2) Our platform gets certified by the UK Gambling Commission

The UK is one of the largest and most established online casino markets in the world, and one we have long wanted to enter. In July, our platform was certified by the UK Gambling Commission, allowing us to partner with UK licensed operators and suppliers.

3) Several deals lined up with UK operators

With our UK Gambling Commission permit in hand, we signed several deals with UK-licensed online casino operators in the second half of the year. We are currently working through the integration process, with our games expected to launch in 2019.

4) Over ten integrations completed in 2018

It was a busy year for Revolver; since our platform went online in June we have completed nearly ten integrations with operators and content aggregators to make our games available to players all over the world.

Live integrations include the following and more:

• AGS Interactive
• Solid Gaming
• QTech
• 1XBet
• BetConstruct
• Twelve40

5) Ten games certified in the UK, Malta and Gibraltar

We have also made a concerted effort to ensure our games are certified in key markets such as the UK, Malta and Gibraltar. We can now offer ten titles to operators licensed in these jurisdictions, with more to follow in the new year.

The end of the year is also the perfect time to look ahead at what the coming 12 months will have in store. For us, we are determined to make it another breakthrough year with a busy production line to manage and more partnerships to sign and deliver.

Here are four predictions for 2019:

1) More game innovation:

Player preferences and expectations are changing and suppliers must up their game in order to meet this demand. This will lead to a real push to innovate, resulting in games that are highly volatile but that offer unique and entertaining features.

Here at Revolver, we have been working really hard on our next suite of games. This new set will eclipse whatever we’ve done in the past in terms of engagement, quality and production value and include a number or titles that will boast never-seen-before features to be unveiled during 2019.

2) Mobile will dominate

We are already seeing the vast majority of online casino play come through smartphones and tablets, and next year the mobile channel will truly dominate. That said, players still expect to receive the same experience on desktop and when playing in a land-based casino.

For this reason, developing games and experiences to be omni-channel will become increasingly important.

3) M&A activity to continue

The past 12 months have seen some truly fascinating mergers and acquisitions take place, and I believe 2019 will see even more activity. The sector is maturing nicely and there are huge opportunities on the table.

I expect at least one big-name acquisition to be announced in the first half of the year!

4) Revolver to hit the big time

We have an incredible product roadmap for 2019 and armed with our proprietary platform, UKGC licence, and Malta license application in process, the next 12 months will transform Revolver from rising star to power player.

The team and I are really excited about the year ahead, not just for the business but also the wider online gambling industry. So watch this space…
